Bakken

Bakken (officially Dyrehavsbakken) is the world's oldest operating amusement park, with roots dating back to 1583 when a natural spring was discovered in the forest north of Copenhagen. Located in the Dyrehaven (Deer Park) forest in Klampenborg, Bakken offers a unique blend of historical charm and modern attractions. The park features a distinctive free admission model - entrance to the park grounds is free, and visitors purchase individual ride tickets or wristbands. This makes it accessible for families who want to enjoy the atmosphere without committing to full admission. The park features over 30 rides and attractions ranging from classic carnival rides to modern thrill attractions. Major rides include Tornado - a spinning roller coaster, Rutschebanen - a historic wooden coaster requiring an operator, Vandrutchebanen - a log flume, and Vilde Mus - a wild mouse coaster. Classic attractions include carousels, bumper cars, swing rides, and fun houses that evoke nostalgic charm. The forest setting provides natural shade and a relaxed, informal atmosphere quite different from modern theme parks. Traditional Danish food stalls, restaurants, and the famous Bakken Hvile restaurant serve local cuisine. The park has a more carnival-like atmosphere than modern theme parks, with game stalls, shooting galleries, and sideshows. Pierroen, Bakken's clown mascot since 1928, appears throughout the park for photos. The Dyrehaven forest itself is worth exploring, home to over 2,000 deer that roam freely. The park is easily accessible via S-train from Copenhagen to Klampenborg station. Operating from late March through August with peak season in summer.
