About This Experience
Erlebnis-Zoo Hannover (Hannover Adventure Zoo) is one of Germany's premier zoological gardens, transforming from a traditional zoo into an immersive themed experience. Opened in 1865 and completely redesigned from 2000 onwards, the zoo now features seven themed worlds providing geographical and cultural immersion alongside animal viewing. Sambesi (Zambezi) recreates African river landscapes with boat safaris gliding past hippos, flamingos, pelicans, and African wildlife in expansive habitats with African village theming. Yukon Bay brings the Canadian wilderness to life with harbor seals viewable from underwater tunnels, timber wolves, polar bears in tundra settings, and bison roaming prairie landscapes. The Yukon Stadium hosts educational presentations. Afi Mountain recreates West African mountain gorilla habitat with a troop of gorillas in lush vegetation, drill monkeys, and forest birds - dedicated to conservation of critically endangered species. Dschungelpalast (Jungle Palace) houses Asian species including tigers, leopards, and small primates in Indo-Asian temple-themed architecture. Meyers Hof is a traditional Lower Saxon farm demonstrating regional agriculture with domestic animals and heritage breeds. Mullewapp features farm animals and play areas based on children's books. Outback recreates Australian landscapes with kangaroos, emus, and wallabies hopping in open habitats. The zoo houses over 2,000 animals from 181 species with strong emphasis on conservation, breeding programs, and education. Shows and demonstrations occur throughout the day including feeding times which provide educational commentary. The park features excellent landscaping, naturalistic habitats with minimal barriers, and immersive theming creating the illusion of traveling the world. Multiple restaurants themed to their areas serve meals. The zoo's thoughtful design with logical pathways ensures visitors can see everything in one day without backtracking.
