Techniquest Science Centre

Techniquest is Wales' leading science discovery centre located in Cardiff Bay, offering an engaging, hands-on approach to scientific learning. With over 120 interactive exhibits spread across multiple floors, children can explore scientific principles through direct experimentation and play. Highlights include the giant soap bubble area where kids can create huge bubbles and even step inside one, the strobe light room exploring perception and movement, and the pulleys and levers section demonstrating mechanical advantage. The Planetarium offers regular shows that take visitors on journeys through the solar system, explaining constellations, planets, and space exploration in age-appropriate presentations. The Science Theatre hosts live demonstrations including explosive chemical reactions, liquid nitrogen experiments, and physics shows that make complex concepts accessible and entertaining. The exhibit areas cover diverse topics: the human body with anatomical models, electricity and magnetism with interactive circuits, sound and light with musical instruments and optical illusions, and environmental science with sustainability-focused activities. Techniquest's staff, known as Explainers, are available throughout the centre to help children engage with exhibits and answer questions, enhancing the learning experience. The centre also runs workshops during school holidays covering topics like robotics, coding, and engineering challenges.
